An accident in Hudson County has left one person dead, local authorities have reported. West New York police responded to the fatal car accident at approximately 2:20 a.m. on the morning of Dec. 6. The crash also seriously injured another motorist. At this time, police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Apparently, a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old woman was traveling westbound when another vehicle, headed in the opposite direction and driven by a 27-year-old man, somehow crossed the center line. Police believe that the man lost control of the vehicle and slid out while trying to navigate a curve in the road. His vehicle collided with the other car, sending them both through a guard rail and the man’s vehicle into the side of a mountain.
Emergency workers tried for some time to extricate the man from his car, at which point he was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries. He later succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead. The woman also suffered very serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital as well. Her current condition is unknown.
New York police will continue investigating this tragic car accident until a satisfactory answer is found as to why the man lost control of his vehicle. If it is prove to have been the result of intoxication or reckless driving, the surviving driver will be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver’s estate and any other owners of the vehicle involved in the crash. Evidence of wrongdoing will be critical if the woman hopes to see any form of remuneration for damages incurred in the accident.
