Two people are dead following a serious crash in Ontario County, according to local sources. The two-car accident that resulted in the fatalities took place the morning of Jan. 29 around 9 a.m., according to New York State Police. Thankfully, no one else was injured in the crash, which is still under investigation by state police.
The accident record shows the driver of an eastbound car lost control of his vehicle, which summarily traveled into the westbound lane and spun into another vehicle heading the opposite direction. The crash was sufficiently violent and killed the driver of the eastbound car upon impact. His passenger was critically injured and was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition. The passenger succumbed to his or her injuries that same day.
The driver of the other vehicle was miraculously unharmed, though his or her vehicle sustained damage in the crash. Police have not publicly announced the identities of anyone involved in the accident, nor have they been forthcoming about their theories as to why the deceased driver may have lost control of his vehicle. The investigation remains open as of this report.
If New York police are able to ascertain why the driver lost control, it will help shed light on this tragic car accident. Obviously, even if criminal negligence was the reason for the crash, no criminal charges will be filed posthumously. However, it should be noted that state law would allow the family of the deceased passenger to seek justice in this case through a civil action. A wrongful death suit would rely on evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the driver in order for the case to result in any financial remuneration.
