1 man dead, 2 seriously injured following New York car accident

One man is dead following a harrowing crash in the Lincoln Tunnel on Sept. 3, according to local sources. New York authorities were the first to respond to the car accident that apparently involved several vehicles and caused numerous injuries. So far, no one has been charged with a crime associated with this accident.

Reports are sketchy, but it has been confirmed that a bus and two other vehicles were both involved in the crash. The drivers of both passenger vehicles suffered injuries, but thankfully no one on board the bus was hurt. It is unclear how the accident started, but it appears to have been a chain-reaction collision.

One passenger suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead of those injuries. Two other individuals also had serious injuries, and their current conditions are unknown as of this report. The crash shut down most of the Tunnel for over 90 minutes, causing serious delays on the popular roadway and jamming traffic in a wide radius. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway by port authorities and state police.

If the police are able to determine whether an individual driver was wholly or partially responsible for the car accident, that driver could face criminal charges. Regardless of the outcome of such a proceeding, however, New York law dictates any injured party will be entitled to file a personal injury suit against the driver deemed responsible, and the family of the deceased man will be able to file for wrongful death in civil court. Evidence from the criminal trial may be applicable to the civil cases.
