A woman is in critical condition following a serious accident in Brooklyn, according to police sources. The 22-year-old New York woman has been charged with drunk driving for her role in a car accident that also injured another driver. Police are still investigating the crash, and thankfully, no one else was hurt.
The woman in question is believed to have been intoxicated behind the wheel when the accident occurred in the early morning of Nov. 29. Apparently, her vehicle struck a second car while on the entrance ramp to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Her vehicle was forced off the road and into a tree, where it crashed and came to rest.
The woman deemed responsible for the accident was seriously injured in the crash and was rushed to a local hospital, where she remains in treatment for her injuries. The other driver involved also suffered injuries in the crash and was treated at the same hospital. No further information was available as of this report, but it is assumed the woman will face her charges in court when she is well enough to be released from the hospital. There has been no word as to how long that process may take.
A car accident in which there is suspicion of drunk driving can be dealt with in several ways by the court. As in this situation, there will be a criminal case if charges are pressed by New York police there will be a criminal case. Apart from the criminal process, however, the injured second driver will be entitled to file a personal injury suit against the woman. That claim would be for monetary damages occasioned by the alleged negligent acts of the accused driver.
