2 men dead following car accident in New York

Police have identified a second victim in a serious car crash near Albany on the early morning of April 11. The car accident, which involved only one vehicle, resulted in the deaths of both occupants of the car. New York police are continuing to investigate the crash, as they have not yet determined its cause. 

Investigators say the two men, ages 27 and 23 respectively, did not appear to have a prior relationship when they both got into the vehicle leaving a restaurant in Colonie around 4 a.m. on April 11. The vehicle traveled onto Interstate 87, but the car strangely left the road near Exit 2W, striking a tree. The force of the impact overturned the car and caused it to burst into flames. 

The investigation has not yet concluded why the 27-year-old driver left the road, but police will continue to pursue this case until a reason has been discovered. It is presumed standard toxicology tests will be implemented to determine whether the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Other mitigating factors will also be considered in the course of the investigation. 

It is possible New York police will determine the driver was in some way culpable for the car accident, either through negligence, recklessness or intoxication. If this turns out to be the case, the family of the deceased passenger may wish to file suit against the driver’s estate and/or any other owners of the vehicle involved. If sufficient evidence exists that the driver was at fault for the fatal crash, damages may be paid out to the grieving family.
