Teenager killed in New York car accident

A 13-year-old girl has tragically died following a serious car crash in upstate New York, according to local sources. The girl was killed in a car accident on May 23 while traveling with her father to Memorial Day festivities. It occurred shortly prior to 5:42 p.m. New York police are still investigating the Warren County crash, but charges are unlikely as the driver believed to have been at fault was also killed in the accident. 

According to the accident report, the family was traveling to the town of Warren to spend the weekend when the accident occurred. The other driver, a 42-year-old man, apparently ran a stop sign and struck the family’s car with enough force that he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the family car, the victim’s father, was thrown from the vehicle and was treated for several injuries including a broken ankle. 

The 13-year-old girl was rushed to a local hospital, but medical personnel were unable to save her life. A friend of hers, a 12-year-old girl, was treated for a fractured leg. An investigation, including a reconstruction of the accident, is still underway by New York authorities. 

The family of the deceased girl as well as the family of the injured girl are entitled to file civil lawsuits against the deceased driver’s estate and any other parties with an ownership interest in the vehicle he was operating. These car accident claims can be supported by evidence gathered by police pointing to the apparent running of the stop sign. Should negligence be established by appropriate proof in civil court, claims for specific items of financial damages will be adjudicated.
