4 injured in New York car accident

A driver who struck multiple pedestrians near Central Park has not yet been charged but is the subject of a police investigation. New York police responded to the car accident at 59th and 5th, near the flagship store of Apple. Thankfully no one was killed in the collision. 

The accident report claims the driver, who has not been identified publicly, lost control of a vehicle, jumping a curb and striking a group of pedestrians. The car traveled onward and struck a light pole before coming to rest. It is unclear if the driver was hurt in the collision. 

Four other people were injured, three of them seriously. The fourth individual escaped with only minor injuries, according to the New York Fire Department. The other three were rushed to local hospitals for treatment. Police are still in the midst of attempting to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the car. They have not ruled out recklessness or negligence on the driver’s part, though no formal charges have been filed at this time. 

If New York authorities determine the driver was somehow at fault for the car accident, he or she will likely face criminal charges of some type. However, even if the driver is not charged, all injured parties will be entitled to file personal injury lawsuits against him or her in a civil court setting. If sufficient evidence of negligence exists in the eyes of the civil court, financial compensation for damages may be ordered by the entry of a monetary judgment.
