5 people injured in New York car accident

A serious car crash in Queens has sent five people to the hospital, according to local sources. The car accident apparently damaged a supermarket after a 72-year-old woman plowed into the building. New York police have not filed charges against her at this time, but their investigation is ongoing. 

According to the accident report, the cause of the crash was not immediately clear. It has been confirmed that the elderly driver drove her vehicle into the supermarket at speeds sufficient for witnesses to think something had exploded. Her exact speed has not been reported at this time. 

Five people were injured and taken to local hospitals with varying degrees of injuries, though the driver herself appeared to be largely unharmed. Several other individuals reported being narrowly missed by the driver as she apparently lost control of her vehicle. The police will likely continue their investigation until a cause for the accident has been uncovered.

The list of potential causes for this car accident is long, as the driver could have lost control of her vehicle for several reasons. Considering her age, issues such as health problems or impaired vision may have played a role, though criminal negligence should not be ruled out. In either case, New York law allows the victims of this crash to file personal injury lawsuits against this woman, should they so desire. While evidence of negligence will be required in order for damages to be paid out, the case is not strictly criminal in nature and would be handled in a civil court setting.
