Car accident in New York may have been intentional

A crash that seriously injured a man in Enfield may have been premeditated, according to local news sources. New York police are investigating the woman said to be responsible for a car accident that killed a local man at around 3:20 p.m. on June 15. The driver involved has been charged with reckless endangerment, leaving the scene and aggravated unlicensed operation. 

According to witnesses on the scene, it appeared the female driver of the vehicle intentionally hit the victim. Further investigation seems to suggest that the victim had originally been a passenger in the vehicle that then struck him. At some point, he left the vehicle, a fact police believe may have been predicated by a domestic incident. 

It is claimed that the woman, a 32-year-old resident of the area, proceeded to strike the man with her vehicle, injuring him. Though he was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital, he did not appear to suffer life-threatening injuries. The woman was arrested by police and now faces serious charges. She has since been arraigned and was released under her own recognizance. 

If police can confirm the car accident was intentional on the part of the driver, she could face serious jail time and other consequences, including the loss of her driver’s license. In addition, the victim may be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit against her in a New York civil court. Any evidence of premeditation on the part of the driver will be taken as fairly damning evidence, even in a civil court claims for financial damages, and could lead to financial reparations being awarded.
