2 dead, 4 injured in serious New York car accident

Two people, including a 42-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter, are dead following a tragic crash in Queens on July 1, according to police sources. New York police have confirmed that a 46-year-old woman is believed to have been speeding at the time of the car accident, leading to the crash. While no one has yet been arrested, police say their investigation is ongoing and charges may be forthcoming. 

According to the accident report, an SUV driven by the 46-year-old woman was traveling at a high rate of speed around 6:30 p.m. when the accident occurred. Surveillance videos of the scene have shown that the woman crossed the center line and struck a passenger vehicle before striking a tree stump and a fire hydrant and coming to rest. The driver was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The occupants of the other vehicle did not fare so well. The 42-year-old woman and her daughter, who were riding in the back seat, were both pronounced dead at the hospital. An 8-year-old is in critical condition, and two senior citizens survived the accident in stable condition. No charges have yet been filed. 

If the outcome of the New York police investigation into this car accident finds the 47-year-old driver guilty of some infraction that led to her losing control of the vehicle, she will likely face criminal charges. In addition, the families of the deceased and those who survived will be entitled under state law to file for wrongful death and personal injury in this case. These filings are civil in nature and do not depend on a conviction to succeed in court.
