A young man is in critical condition with a serious head injury following a crash in Scipio Center, according to local sources. New York authorities are reporting that a man of indeterminate age was seriously injured in a car accident near Route 34. While no charges have yet been filed, police are continuing their investigation into this incident.
The accident report claims the man was driving northbound around 3:40 p.m. on July 27 when the accident occurred. The man was struck broadside by a westbound pickup truck, though it is unclear what caused the collision or if either man ran a stop sign or red light. The force of the collision pushed both vehicles into a nearby yard.
The driver of the pickup truck was described as shaken but unharmed, but the driver of the car was seriously hurt. He suffered traumatic head injuries in the collision and was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, no one else was hurt in the accident, which is still under investigation. At this time, neither driver has been charged with a crime.
New York police will continue to investigate this car accident until it is determined which driver was at fault for the crash. If the pickup truck driver is found to have acted negligently or recklessly, thus directly or indirectly causing the accident, he could face criminal charges. In addition the injured man may wish to file a personal injury lawsuit against him, as head injuries of that severity can often have long-term detrimental effects on those who suffer them.
