Man killed in pedestrian car accident in New York

The New York Police Department’s Collision Investigation Squad is still in the process of determining the exact cause of a serious single-car crash that killed a pedestrian and injured several other people in Brooklyn, according to local sources. Police are still attempting to work out the cause of the car accident that claimed the life of a 50-year-old man and sent several others, including a 3-year-old child, to the hospital. So far, no charges have been filed. 

According to preliminary reports, on the evening of Nov. 9, a 53-year-old man driving an SUV apparently tried to stop another motorist from passing him before losing control of his vehicle. The SUV mounted the curb, struck a bus stop and a tree, and flipped over. The vehicle crushed a 50-year-old man, and a 59-year-old woman was struck with debris.

Despite the best efforts of responding medical personnel at the scene, the crushed man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The woman, the driver and a 3-year-old passenger were all rushed to local hospitals with serious but non life-threatening injuries. They were all reported in stable condition at the time of this report. 

So far, New York police have not charged the driver involved with a crime, though it seems likely if the man was indeed suffering from road rage. In the meantime, police will continue to investigate the car accident. In addition, the injured woman and the family of the deceased man will be entitled to file civil suits against the driver even in the absence of a criminal conviction or even a charge.
