2 dead in New York car accident

Two people were killed on a Queens highway after the vehicle in which they were riding crashed into a truck, according to local law enforcement. New York emergency services responded to the fatal car accident, which took place around 2:40 a.m. on Nov. 27. Police are still attempting to reconstruct the accident, which claimed the life of both the driver and his only passenger. 

According to witness statements, the vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crashed into a truck on the right shoulder of the road. One witness estimated the car was traveling at approximately 90 mph when the collision occurred. The force of the impact totaled the car. 

The driver and his 36-year-old passenger were both killed in the impact. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene of the accident and has not been charged with a crime. So far, police have not formally speculated as to whether alcohol or the aforementioned speeding may have been factors in the crash. Their investigation is ongoing as of this report.

Based upon the statements of the witness, it appears that the driver may have caused the car accident through reckless driving. If an investigation confirms this information, the family of the deceased passenger may choose to initiate a New York wrongful death lawsuit against the driver’s estate. While the suit is civil in nature, it may be based upon evidence gathered in a police investigation in order to establish driver negligence in court.
