1 man killed in New York car accident

An Odessa man is dead after a serious crash on Route 13, according to local sources. New York authorities responded to the car accident around 8 a.m. the morning of Feb. 16. The man has since died of his injuries. No charges have been filed in association with the crash as of this report. 

According to the accident report, the 58-year-old man was traveling southbound on Route 13 when the crash occurred. A UPS truck heading the opposite direction reportedly lost control and entered the southbound lanes, striking the man’s vehicle with such force that the car went underneath the truck. Police believe the UPS driver lost control due to icy conditions on the road at the time of the accident. 

The 58-year-old man was listed as in critical condition when he was rushed to a local hospital for care. He was pronounced dead that night. The driver of the UPS truck was not injured in the crash, and, as of this report, he has not been charged with a crime. Local authorities issued weather and traffic warnings about the conditions on the road. 

Even though no charges have been filed in connection with this car accident, a man is still dead. New York traffic law requires that all drivers operate their vehicles in a manner consistent with the weather. If there is any question as to whether the UPS driver was being at all reckless or negligent when the car accident happened, the family of the deceased man may have reasonable cause to pursue damages in a civil court setting.
