1 dead following serious car accident in New York

A man from Amsterdam is dead following a serious car crash on Route 67 that occurred during the early evening of May 22, according to state police. New York authorities reportedly spent several hours investigating the car accident that claimed the life of a a 63-year-old man visiting from overseas. The accident also injured several other people. 

The accident report states that around 5:45 p.m., a 32-year-old woman failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of West Line Road and Route 67. Her vehicle collided with a convertible being driven by the deceased victim, which left the roadway headed west and rolled over onto its roof. The sole occupant, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident. 

The other vehicle, which was reportedly transporting several children, fared little better. The 32-year-old woman driving the vehicle was not injured in the crash, but the rest of the occupants of her vehicle were taken to a local hospital for monitoring and treatment. Their statuses were not given in this report. 

As the woman appears to have run a stop sign, leading to the car accident, it is possible she will face charges pertaining to this traffic violation. New York law will also allow the family of the deceased man to file a wrongful death lawsuit against her. Assuming that the man’s family is located overseas, it may be beneficial for them to retain the counsel of a New York-based attorney to handle such a claim should they wish to file.
