A 62-year-old woman has tragically died following a three-car crash on Long Island, according to local sources. The woman was killed in a car accident involving one other vehicle. New York police say charges may be pending as they continue to investigate the crash.
According to the accident report, the crash occurred around noon on May 26 in East Islip. The woman was driving a van that was hit by a car with enough force to slam her van into a another vehicle that was waiting at a stop light. The van then rolled over several times before coming to rest.
The driver of the initial striking vehicle was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as minor. The driver of the third vehicle was thankfully unhurt in the collision. However, the 62-year-old woman who was driving the van was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say their investigation is still underway as of this report.
In a car accident of this type, it is possible for criminal charges to be filed against the driver who failed to stop in time to keep from causing the collision. As part of the New York police investigation, it is likely the offending driver will be checked for drug and/or alcohol use, as well as determining whether he or she was operating the vehicle in an unsafe manner. If any of these are found to be true, the driver could face criminal charges in addition to a potential wrongful death lawsuit that could be filed in civil court by the family of the deceased woman.
