Usually when there is a news story about a bicycle accident, the story doesn’t have a happy ending. In most cases, the bicyclist suffers serious or fatal injuries, and there may be numerous other people involved in the wreck dealing with catastrophic injury. It’s just the nature of bike accidents — the bicyclist is inherently vulnerable and prone to serious injury, so when their vehicle is struck by a car, truck, bus or other motor vehicle, serious injuries are practically guaranteed.
This is why we wanted to write about the following bicycle accident story — because it at least has a semblance of a happy ending.
A woman was riding her bike in New York City recently when she was struck by a taxi. As a result of the collision, she was pinned underneath the car. In an act of heroism, a bunch of people near the accident gathered together and lifted the vehicle off the older woman. She suffered injuries, but she is expected to be okay.
It is so great to see a bunch of Good Samaritans getting involved to help an injured person like this. Hopefully the woman is able to make a full recovery.
Even though the message of this story is a great one, we are still dealing with a bike accident that left a person injured. These happen all the time, and often it is the driver of the motor vehicle at fault for the wreck. When this occurs, the driver can be held responsible in civil court.
