People visit public places all the time to enjoy recreation, to work, to shop or for a myriad of other reasons. Most people never have to think twice about being injured in most of these places. However, accidents can happen at any time and if someone is hurt in New York on somebody else’s property the owner could be held responsible.
The family of a 21-year-old man continues to wait by his hospital bed in hopes that he can still recover from nearly drowning in a high school swimming pool. Reportedly the man suffers from seizures and each time the doctors attempt to bring him out of the coma to run tests, he suffers more seizures. According to the man’s family, they did not give their son permission to swim at the pool and at this time they are still unsure why he was even there.
The man’s father says that his son has special needs, is unable to swim and that he does not speak English. The man’s family has made several attempts to get answers involving their son’s accident, however they have reportedly received very little information at this point. It is not known how long the man was under water, but he was found at the bottom of the pool only after a head count revealed that the group was missing one person.
If the school is eventually found to be negligent in any way in this accident the injured man’s family could possibly file a lawsuit on his behalf. When a person or a facility acts irresponsibly and in turn someone is hurt on his or her property, then speaking with a premises liability attorney might be a good idea.
