Two people in upstate New York were killed in a car accident that involved three vehicles, one of which was allegedly speeding. That speeding car was driven by a 24-year-old man who had two passengers in his car. His vehicle struck another vehicle, and it careened into a truck which ripped the vehicle in two. The two passengers were tossed from the 24-year-old’s vehicle, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 24-year-old and the driver of the vehicle that he hit suffered injuries that were described as non-life threatening. The police will investigate the wreck and release their official determination about fault and cause of the accident soon.
Even though in many car accident cases it may seem clear who was responsible for what, it is important for victims of the wreck to be patient and wait for the result of the police investigation to come to fruition. The victims could still pursue civil litigation against the seemingly at-fault party without the investigation results, but the investigation could yield key pieces of evidence and crucial determinations that would prove very valuable in the lawsuit.
In the wake of a fatal car accident, it may be very tough for the loved ones of the victims to consider legal action. They are grieving and going through the most difficult time of their life. However, a civil lawsuit can yield crucial compensation to help the family get through this difficult time. The money won’t bring your loved one back, but it will serve as a tiny sense of justice.
