There’s no question that sports fans can be passionate about their favorite teams. Unfortunately, some fans get carried away in their passion and end up making choices that lead to property damage or even injuries. If a fan in New York ever decides to turn to violence, then he or she may end up in jail as well as being held responsible for anyone who is injured.
A 45-year-old Boston Red Sox fan that was severely injured after being stabbed in the neck by a New York Yankees fan has been awarded more than $4 million by a Connecticut jury. The Yankees fan was convicted of assault and is serving a sentence of 10-years in prison. The life of the man who was stabbed will never be the same because of the attack. As a result of the brain injuries he sustained he suffered a stroke and now has difficulty speaking and seeing.
A jury found that the restaurant where the stabbing occurred was responsible for the attack because reportedly employees ignored warning signs that the Yankees fan was bothering other patrons and attempting to instigate a fight. According to court records the bartenders continued to serve the Yankees fan drinks despite his actions. The restaurant does plan to appeal the decision.
When a person is injured for any reason while present on someone else’s property, he or she may be entitled to legal compensation. A premises liability attorney can answer any questions a person has if he or she has been injured because of dangerous premises.
