A man has been tragically killed following an accident in which the driver fled the scene, according to local sources. New York police were called to investigate the car accident which claimed the life of a 63-year-old man. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with this crash.
According to the accident report, the man was walking near the Cross Bronx Expressway when the accident occurred. For reasons unknown, a black SUV struck the man, who was apparently not on the street at the time. The vehicle then fled the scene and is still being sought by police.
The man is said to have suffered severe bodily trauma as a result of the impact. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Police have asked that anyone who witnessed the accident to please contact them in order to assist in the apprehension of the driver responsible for this tragic accident.
A hit-and-run car accident is difficult to process for law enforcement until the driver deemed responsible has been brought in for questioning. In this case, New York police will continue the investigation until the driver involved in the death of the victim is found and apprehended. At that point it seems likely the driver will face criminal charges, specifically pertaining to leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Other charges may also be brought against this individual. In addition, the family of the deceased man may wish to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver involved.
