A motorcyclist from out-of-state was tragically killed in a crash on August 17, according to local sources. New York police have not yet filed charges against the driver of a car involved in this car accident, which claimed the life of a 43-year-old motorcyclist. The investigation is ongoing as of this writing.
According to the accident report, the 43-year-old man was traveling along Pennsylvania Avenue in Apalachin when the accident occurred. Sources say a 71-year-old man, ironically also from the same state as the victim, was turning off of Route 434 when the crash occurred. It appears that the man turned directly into the path of the motorcycle, inciting the accident.
The motorcycle struck the car broadside, causing serious injury to the 43-year-old. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter by arriving emergency responders. It does not appear that the driver of the car was hurt in the crash. Police say they are still investigating the cause of the accident, and they have not speculated as to whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the tragic crash. No further details were available as of this report.
If New York police can determine that the driver of the car was culpable in some way for the car accident that led to the death of the motorcyclist, he will likely face criminal consequences, including possible jail time. In addition, the family of the deceased motorcyclist will be entitled to file a wrongful death suit against the driver. While the two cases are in no way contingent upon one another, evidence proving culpability will be needed to win the civil case.
