A 70-year-old man is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Brooklyn, according to local sources. New York authorities are still searching for the driver involved in the car accident, who reportedly fled the scene. They have asked for the support of the community in bringing that individual to justice.
According to witness reports, the man was traveling on a motorized scooter around 3:45 p.m. the afternoon of Mar. 2 when the accident occurred. A vehicle attempting to navigate a turn reportedly sideswiped the man, who fell off his scooter. The man driving the car then fled the scene.
When EMTs arrived, they discovered the man had a serious head wound. He was rushed to a local hospital in what medical personnel described as critical condition. It is unclear as of this report if he is expected to survive. Police have asked any other witnesses to the accident to please report what they know to Crimestoppers.
A hit-and-run car accident is a terrible crime, and it can be hoped that New York authorities will be able to track down and apprehend the man allegedly responsible for this accident. Should this happen, he will likely face criminal charges for his role in the crash. In addition, the injured man is entitled to file a personal injury suit against that driver, even if he is not convicted. Should the worst occur, the man’s family would be entitled to file a wrongful death suit using the same evidence police might use to charge him criminally.
