Accidents happen all the time in New York and anywhere else. However, some accidents can be avoided if the proper care and attention are given to prevent them from occurring. If a person is in a public place like a mall, or on a private premise, such as a college campus, he or she should feel safe and protected in that environment.
Several people suffered injuries when a gas explosion occurred at Nyack College, in New York County, recently. As an extra precaution authorities had people living close by the college evacuate their homes after a strong smell of gas was reported in the area. Those who were hurt in the blast were treated at the hospital and none of their injuries were reported to be critical.
The cause of the blast has yet to be reported, however its impact was powerful enough to rip several doors from their frames and completely shatter windows. Of the seven people who suffered injuries, reportedly most of them were cuts and abrasion caused by flying debris likely from the broken doors and windows. Two people suffered flash burns.
Accidents and injuries can occur anywhere and at any time. It’s important for a person who has suffered an injury because of unsafe conditions or the careless acts of others to know his or rights. If someone has been injured because of this type of situation they may be entitled to file a premises liability claim against the responsible party, if that person and/or business has been negligent or careless.
