A resident of Carmel has tragically lost her life following a serious crash on Route 22, according to local sources. The New York woman was killed in a head-on car accident after a pickup truck allegedly crossed the center line. So far, no charges have been filed against the other driver involved in the crash.
The accident report indicates the vehicle carrying the 63-year-old woman and driven by her 65-year-old husband was traveling south on Route 22 when the accident happened around 4 p.m. on April 29. A pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old man was traveling north when his vehicle apparently drifted into the southbound lanes. The two vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene for injuries described as minor. The female passenger in the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident when emergency services arrived. Her husband was taken to a local hospital with injuries medical personnel say are not life-threatening. The reconstruction department of the New York police were on the scene investigating the particulars of the crash, and their investigation is still ongoing as of this report.
Should the results of the investigation point to negligence or recklessness on the part of the pickup truck driver, New York police may elect to file criminal charges for his role in the car accident. Additionally, the injured man may wish to file a personal injury lawsuit on his own behalf and a wrongful death suit on behalf of his late wife. He will be entitled to use any evidence brought to light by the police investigation in support of his civil suits, should he choose to file them.
